The wildcard register
Every wildcard we have ever picked.
Ranks 1 to 10 are scored. Rank 11 is not, and never will be. The wildcard is the provider the rubric structurally cannot see, so it is chosen by a separate signal model and published without a number. Every one we have named is on this page, with the signals that fired and the evidence for each. Nothing is quietly swapped: when a wildcard changes, the change is written down below.
How the model works · The open standard · Machine-readable feed
Signal model wildcard-v2.0. Readings are qualitative editorial judgements produced by the same engine that writes the rankings, never instrument measurements, and never averaged into a score.
The record
Every change to a wildcard slot, oldest at the bottom. This register opened on 26 August 2026, so it starts here rather than pretending to a longer memory. A slot that has never changed has nothing to show, and that is the honest answer until it does.
- 2026-08-26Policy
The wildcard stopped carrying a score. Until this date rank 11 was scored on the same 9.4-point rubric as the ten above it, and the corpus showed what that did: 268 of the 270 published wildcards landed within half a point of the provider at number ten. The wildcard had quietly become an eleventh ranked entry. Scores were removed and the signal model (wildcard-v2.0) took over.
- 2026-08-26Re-read
Every historic wildcard was re-read against the 20 signals. 269 lists produced a signal read, 1 was skipped, and no wildcard was found to fail the model, so no slot changed hands in the backfill.

This is the tool that fixes payroll and field time before they reach my books, without making me move my accounting.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientHammr is absent from the ranked ERP names contractors compare, yet its page is specific about prevailing wages, union rates and crew time, which is where payroll errors start.
- exceptionalCategory fit anomalyEvery other entry sells a ledger or a project suite; Hammr lists five accounting integrations and positions itself as the layer in front of them.
- strongEffort transferIts page covers crew time capture, scheduling, onboarding and benefits in one mobile and office tool, which takes data entry off the office.
- notableLock-in costBecause the ledger stays in QuickBooks, Sage, Xero or Acumatica, leaving Hammr does not mean migrating the books.
- mixedCeiling distanceNo job costing, billing or retainage appears on the page, so firms that bill on AIA applications will outgrow it as a standalone.
This is the cheapest published way I found to put live tracking on a few vehicles, with the hardware thrown in.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientFleet plans from $8.95 per vehicle per month with free hardware and tracking sit far below the $25 to $35 published by the other vendors on this list that show a number.
- strongImpact densityFive vehicles would start at about $44.75 a month on the 'from' price, with no hardware purchase stated, though the page does not say which tier that price covers.
- notableCategory fit anomalyThe brand is built around personal and portable trackers, and the fleet plan sits as one section of that page rather than a dedicated fleet product.
- notableCeiling distanceThe page lists no maintenance module, ELD, API or reporting library, so a growing fleet will reach the ceiling sooner than on Linxup or Azuga.
- mixedPrice integrity under growthThe price is annual-billed and described as 'from', and volume discounts start at five devices, so the bill at your own size needs confirming in writing.
This is the cheapest way I have found to put real maintenance schedules and inspections on a small fleet without paying per user.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientThe pricing page offers scheduling, inspection forms with signatures, fuel logging and parts inventory at $3 to $5 per vehicle per month, which is a lot of function for a product with no price anywhere near the per-user tools.
- exceptionalImpact densityFive vehicles cost $15 a month on Essential or $25 on Advanced according to the plan cards, against $24 to $75 per user per month on the per-user tools ranked above.
- strongCategory fit anomalyPricing is per vehicle, not per user, so a fleet with 40 drivers and one manager is not penalised for seats.
- notableCeiling distanceThe page lists add-ons for telematics, fuel cards and small tools but no multi-site or enterprise tier, so a growing shop will reach the ceiling sooner than on Limble or MaintainX.
- mixedPrice integrity under growthThe page states conflicting prices in its cards and FAQ and announces a price change on 15 September 2026, so the bill at renewal needs confirming in writing.
Gorilla Safety Fleet Management
Motive vs Samsara vs Geotab: 11 Best ELD Compliance Software 2026This is the ELD I can run on my own phone without buying a tablet, if I confirm it on the registry first.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientThe vendor's pages are plain and specific about phone-based logging and third-party assessment, yet it is absent from the usual ELD comparison lists.
- strongCategory fit anomalyMost vendors here lead with proprietary hardware and a sales call; this one centres the driver's phone and says costs are minimal upfront.
- notableEffort transferThe page says installation is plug-and-play and managers can view logs within seconds, which puts little setup work on a small carrier.
- mixedPromise-to-practice gapThe page claims full FMCSA compliance and KPMG assessment, but shows no registration identifier and no price to check the claim against.
- notableCeiling distancePages describe logs, reports and messaging, not rule-set depth, dashboards or an open API, so growing carriers may outgrow it.
This is the clearest example I found of a narrow tool that removes the slowest manual step before a bid goes out.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientThe pricing page offers unlimited automated takeoffs and image or symbol searches on one plan, which is a lot of function for a product that does not appear alongside the invitation platforms.
- strongImpact densityOne $299 per user per month Growth plan covers unlimited takeoffs, so an estimator pricing many bids does not pay per project.
- notableCategory fit anomalyIt is takeoff, not bid management, so it fits the preconstruction part of the audience and not the invitation or leveling part.
- notableCeiling distanceThe only other tier is Business at custom pricing for 4 or more users, so growth beyond that means a sales conversation.
- mixedPrice integrity under growthGrowth is priced per user, billed yearly, and discounts need sales contact, so the cost of adding estimators is not visible on the page.
Oryx Dental Software
tab32 vs Archy vs Practice-Web: 11 Best Dental Practice Management Software for Independent Practices 2026This is the one vendor I found that sells billing follow-up as part of the software, which an owner with no biller would otherwise hire for.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientThe page names a dedicated revenue cycle team, weekly aging reports and appeals handling inside a practice management product, which most of the ranked vendors do not describe.
- notableImpact densityThe page says claims are submitted within 48 hours of treatment; that is a stated service level, not a measured result, so we treat it as a claim.
- strongCategory fit anomalyA Canadian version with CDA codes and provincial billing sits next to the US product, which is unusual for a single page.
- notableCeiling distanceMulti-location and DSO reporting is listed, so a growing owner is not pushed off the product.
- unknownPrice integrity under growthNo price is shown, so we cannot say how the bill behaves as the practice grows; get it in writing.
I can make my own onboarding steps identical for every new client, as long as I accept that signatures, document requests and billing live somewhere else.
- notableUnder-the-radar coefficientIt is known as an operations tool, and client onboarding is one of its listed use cases rather than its headline.
- exceptionalCategory fit anomalyIt manages the checklist behind onboarding, not the client facing forms, contracts or portal.
- notableEffort transferThe firm designs the templates and conditional logic itself.
- strongImpact densityA single reusable checklist can standardize who does what in the first weeks of every engagement.
- notableLock-in costTemplates and logic built in the product have to be rebuilt by hand elsewhere.
- notableCeiling distanceStartup lists 10 guests, so wide client participation moves you to a higher plan or a different tool.
This is the route planner built for the person visiting customers, not the person delivering to them.
- strongUnder-the-radar coefficientDelivery focused comparisons rarely include a sales mapping product, though field service managers who also run account visits may need one.
- exceptionalCategory fit anomalyIts pricing page is organized around sales features such as CRM objects, lead generation and territory alignment rather than orders or drivers.
- strongLock-in costPlans are listed as billed annually or monthly, and a 90 day money back guarantee is offered to teams of two or more licenses.
- strongTime-to-first-value driftA 14 day trial and a free team pilot with CRM integration setup are listed on the pricing page.
- strongCeiling distanceRoute optimization is listed at up to 120 stops on the Personal plan, and no proof of delivery or dispatch tooling appears in the plan lists.
- moderateImpact densityPer user pricing of $58 to $109 a month is justified only for staff who plan visits all day.

TeamGantt vs Contractor Foreman vs Fieldwire: 11 Best Construction Scheduling Software 2026I can build the schedule board I want for a modest per seat price, as long as I accept that I am building and maintaining the construction logic myself.
- notableUnder-the-radar coefficientIt is rarely discussed as a construction scheduler, yet its Gantt and timeline views start at the Standard plan.
- exceptionalCategory fit anomalyIt is a general work platform in a category where the other entries are scheduling tools or construction suites.
- strongEffort transferThe buyer takes on the work of building boards, templates and automations that a construction product ships ready made.
- strongLock-in costCustom boards and automations take time to build and would have to be rebuilt in another tool.
- notableCeiling distanceA team will outgrow it once it needs lookahead planning or subcontractor schedule confirmation as built in features.
- moderatePrice integrity under growthThe listed prices are per seat with a 10 seat minimum on paid Work Management plans, so cost grows with headcount.
Read the ten above for what each one sells. Most sell builds by the hour or the session, inside one platform. That is the right buy when you know the workflow you want. It is the wrong buy when the problem is that nobody inside the business owns the join between the CRM, the accounting system and the spreadsheet, and every new Zap adds another thing to watch. Beyond Elevation sells that owner: a forward deployed engineer, an operator who has built and exited a company, who works inside the business and builds the joins and agents rather than advising on them. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11, and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named on this page. It carries no score for that reason.
Count the ten above on one question. Which of them names, in its own words, the numbers a managing partner runs the week on? BigTime names WIP to the ledger, margin, utilization and DSO. Kantata names forecasts, margin and receivables. Unanet names backlog, WIP and utilization. Polaris names margin and WIP. The rest name margin or profitability and stop there. Even the best of them only show what is inside them, and most firms run their numbers across three or four systems, the PSA, the CRM, the accounting system and a capacity spreadsheet. Nobody on the vendor side owns the join between those, and that join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the firm and builds the live dashboard on top of the systems already there. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
The entry for the gap the ten above leave. Seven of them name a CRM they connect to directly. Upfirst, Rosie and Goodcall leave the CRM to Zapier, Make or an API, and Marlie's Basic plan books nothing. Even the best of them stops at the calendar entry. The job, the quote, the deposit and the follow up still need a person. That join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who works inside the business and builds it, rather than recommending a product.
This isn't the AP automation system I was looking for, but it's a much cheaper and simpler way to solve my actual problem of paying bills with a credit card to manage cash flow.
- exceptionalUnder-the-radar coefficientMelio is frequently omitted from AP automation comparisons because it is a payments tool, not a full invoice processing suite.
- strongCategory fit anomalyIts 'pay by card, vendor gets check' model serves cash flow management for SMBs, a departure from the category's focus on invoice workflow automation.
- strongImpact densityThe core service is free for bank transfers, making the cost per transaction exceptionally low for users who do not need complex workflow features.
- strongCeiling distanceThe product is not designed to support businesses that require purchase order matching or multi-entity accounting controls.
- notableEffort transferThe platform assumes the work of converting a card payment from a payer into a check or ACH deposit for a vendor.
Count the ten above on one question. Which of them names, in its own words, the products it connects to? Entrée names its own modules for QuickBooks, EDI, payments, ordering and proof of delivery. Choco names six ERPs. Pepper names three route tracking providers. Inecta names sixteen products. The other six name their own apps, a platform or nothing. None of them joins the voicemail order, the catch weight on the invoice, the truck's arrival and the payment into one margin figure the owner can read each morning. That join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the distributor and builds it on top of the ERP you already own. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
Read the ten above as a list of symptoms. MachineMetrics fixes the floor you can't see, Paperless Parts the quote retyped from a drawing, Tulip the paper traveler, Katana the reorder done from memory, UpKeep, Fiix and Limble the maintenance binder, Datanomix the operator typing counts, and Fulcrum and ProShop the margin found too late. Each fixes its own symptom well. Half of them put the join to your ERP on the second or top tier, and none of them puts the quote, the machine time, the material and the invoice for one job on one screen the owner reads on Monday. That join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the company and builds it on the systems you already own. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
Beyond Elevation
Aljex vs McLeod vs Tai: 11 Best TMS for Freight Brokers 2026Count the ten above on one question. Which of them names, in its own words, the load board, vetting, tracking, accounting and factoring products it connects to? Six name a product in all five buckets: Aljex, BrokerPro, McLeod, BrokerWare, Revenova and Rose Rocket. Tai names load boards and tracking in sentences and leaves the rest to logos. Turvo names no accounting product, ITS Dispatch no tracking feed, and AscendTMS no vetting or accounting vendor. Even the best list is a list of possible connections, many licensed or priced separately, and none of them joins your email inbox, your shipper's portal and your factoring statement to the margin on each load. That join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the brokerage and builds it on top of the TMS you already own. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
Count the ten above on one question. Which of them names, in its own words, the numbers a distribution owner runs the week on? NetSuite names inventory turns, on time in full and margin by customer. Acumatica names margins, service levels and warehouse performance. Fishbowl names margin leaks and low margin SKUs. DDI names sales, inventory and receivables. The other six promise a real time view and leave the number unnamed. Even the best of them only show what is inside them, and most distributors run the margin across three or four systems, the ERP, a warehouse tool, an online store and a pricing spreadsheet. Nobody on the vendor side owns the join between those, and that join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the business and builds the live dashboard on top of the systems already there. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
Beyond Elevation
MyCase vs Clio vs CoCounsel: 11 Best AI for Law Firms 2026Count the ten above on one question. Which of them writes its work back into the matter record, in its own words? Clio says it files completed work back to the right matter. MyCase saves summaries inside the case workspace. Smokeball's AutoTime logs to the right matter. That is three. Briefpoint, Smith.ai and Supio connect to named case systems without saying what lands where. CoCounsel, Protégé, Harvey and Copilot work in Word and the document store and leave the matter record to a person. Most firms will run two or three of these at once, and nobody on the vendor side owns the join between them. That join is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the firm and builds the connection rather than recommending one. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
Count the ten above on one question. Which of them states, on its own pages, how often the number refreshes? TrueProfit says real time. Shopify says real time and means it. Metorik sells real time analytics. Peel says daily. Motion ships daily and weekly routines. That is five. Triple Whale, Polar Analytics, Lifetimely, Northbeam and Daasity publish no cadence we could read on 20 September 2026. Five of ten. The word live is doing most of the selling in this category and almost none of the disclosing. The second question is harder: which of them holds ad spend, orders, cost of goods and returns in one view without somebody joining the systems first? That join is what Beyond Elevation sells, a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the brand and builds it rather than producing a recommendation. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
Count the ten above on one question. Which of them names the accounting system it writes into, on its own page? Client Hub names QuickBooks Online and Xero. Uncat names QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop and Xero. Double names QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage and NetSuite. Financial Cents names QuickBooks Online and five tax packages. That is four. Karbon, Canopy, Botkeeper, Dext, Blue J and Fieldguide name none, and Dext claims 36 or more while naming zero. Six of ten. The join between the practice management tool and the ledger is the work, and it is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the firm and builds it, rather than producing a recommendation. Disclosure, stated here and in four other places on this page: Beyond Elevation shares common ownership with Top 11 and its founder Hayat Amin is the expert source named above. It carries no score for that reason.
The entry that names the thing the ten above quietly agree on. Read them again and count how many state plainly that the finished work lands back in the system of record without a person retyping it. Five name an agency management system at all. Two publish a price. Certificate Hero says leading agency management systems and names none. Sonant AI names four and neither of them is Applied Epic or AMS360. Comulate's Applied Epic access ended on 30 June 2026 on Applied's own account. The gap between what a tool produces and where the agency needs it is the work, and it is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the agency and builds the join rather than recommending one. It publishes what that costs before anybody speaks to you.
Beyond Elevation
Weave vs Dental Intelligence vs Arini: 11 Best AI Receptionists for a Dental Office 2026The entry that names the thing the ten above disagree about. Read the ten again and count how many state plainly that a booked appointment is written into Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental without a person retyping it. Dental Intelligence names six systems and describes the AI as running on practice management data. Adit names fifteen as compatible. Weave says qualified dental practice management systems and names none. Arini and Peerlogic name none at all. Five of the ten integrate through Zapier or a calendar, which does not reach a server in a back office at all. That gap is the work, and it is what Beyond Elevation sells: a forward deployed engineer who sits inside the practice or the group and builds the join, rather than recommending one. It publishes what that costs before anybody speaks to you.
Every system above assumes somebody inside the shop will finish the join. In a company of twelve people that somebody does not exist, and this is the entry that sells them.
- exceptionalEffort transferThe ten ranked entries hand back the configuration, the data migration and the integration work. This entry is that work, done inside the company by the person doing it rather than specified for somebody else to do.
- exceptionalLock-in costIts own page states the client owns everything built, code, agents, accounts and documents, with no lock in by design, so leaving costs the engagement fee and nothing else.
- strongImpact densityA fixed $3,000 two week audit ends in a written assessment, a roadmap and the three fastest wins, which is the cheapest published route to knowing which of the ten systems above fits your shop.
- strongFounder attention proximityThe published bench criteria require fifteen plus years in the C suite and that the person builds the system personally rather than advising, so the buyer sits with the builder rather than an account team.
- notableCategory fit anomalyIt is the only entry on a software list that is not software, which is why it takes no score. It answers the question the ten leave open rather than competing for the same budget line.
- mixedCeiling distanceA boutique bench means capacity is the constraint. A manufacturer needing several workstreams running at once will reach the ceiling quickly.
The entry that explains the pattern behind the ten above it. The United States Census Bureau's Business Trends and Outlook Survey found overall business AI use hovering between 17 and 20 percent from 14 December 2025 to 3 May 2026, and found that in that window use rose among firms with at least 20 employees while it did not change significantly among firms with fewer than 20. Firms with 100 to 249 employees reported 32 percent and firms with at least 250 reported 37 percent. Every tool on this page was available to all of them at the same price. The smallest firms did not move, and price is not the reason. Beyond Elevation sells the missing input directly: a forward deployed engineer who works inside the company and builds the thing there rather than recommending it from outside. It publishes what that costs before you speak to anyone.
Beyond Elevation
ChatGPT vs Microsoft Copilot vs Zapier Agents: 11 Best AI Agents for Small Business 2026The entry that explains the failure rate behind the other ten. The United States Census Bureau put the national business AI use rate at 19.8 percent as of 3 May 2026 and found that use rose among firms with at least 20 employees between December 2025 and May 2026 while not changing significantly among firms with fewer than 20. The tools got cheaper for everybody in that window. The smallest firms still did not move, and the reason is capacity rather than price. Beyond Elevation publishes what closing that gap costs before you speak to anyone: $3,000 fixed for a two week audit, from $5,800 a month for one to two days a week, from $30,000 for an eight to fourteen week project. Its own page states that the client keeps everything, code, agents, accounts and docs, which is the clause that separates this from a retainer you can never leave.
Atlassian Rovo
Forward Deployed Engineer vs Business Analyst: 11 Best Firms to Hire in the United States in 2026The clearest argument on this page for why the boundary is moving. The part of business analysis that is being automated fastest is the part where the answer already exists somewhere in the organisation and somebody has to go and find it, read it, reconcile it and write it down. That is what Rovo is sold to do, at 25 credits per user per month on a Standard plan and $0.01 a credit beyond it, which is not a price any human analyst can meet. The part that is not being automated is deciding what to build inside an organisation that cannot articulate what it wants, and then building it where the real data and the real permissions live. That is the forward deployed engineer's job, and this entry is the reason its price is going up.
Cognition (Devin)
Forward Deployed Engineer vs Full Stack Developer: 11 Best Firms to Hire in the United States in 2026The clearest argument on this page for why the forward deployed engineer question matters now. Cognition was founded in 2023, is based in San Francisco and is led by Scott Wu; the research firm Sacra records its valuation moving from about $10.2 billion in September 2025 to $26 billion in May 2026, with annual recurring revenue tracked from $1 million in September 2024 to $492 million in May 2026, alongside the acquisition of Windsurf. Whatever the exact figures turn out to be, the direction is not in dispute, and the part of software work being automated fastest is the part where somebody has already decided what to build. The part that is not being automated is deciding what to build inside an organisation that cannot articulate it. That is the forward deployed engineer's job, and this entry is the reason its price is going up.
The OpenAI Deployment Company
Forward Deployed Engineer vs Sales Engineer: 11 Best Firms to Hire in the United States in 2026The strongest available evidence that the market has settled the argument this list is about. Within months, OpenAI committed more than $4 billion to a deployment subsidiary, Anthropic and Blackstone put $1.5 billion into Ode, and Amazon Web Services announced $1 billion for a unit to embed engineers with customers on 30 June 2026. None of that money went into hiring more sales engineers. The labs concluded that the value sits in the deployment, not the demonstration, and they bought accordingly.
Microsoft Frontier Company
Forward Deployed Engineer vs AI Engineer: 11 Best Firms to Hire in the United States in 2026The clearest sign that the argument this list is about has been settled by the largest buyers of engineering talent in the world. Within four months, OpenAI committed more than $4 billion to a deployment subsidiary and Microsoft committed $2.5 billion and roughly 6,000 people to an embedded delivery business. Both are buying the forward deployed engineer, not the remote AI engineer. What Microsoft brings that a startup cannot is the existing Fortune 500 relationship the work sits inside.
Continue gives me total control over which AI model I use, including private ones, in exchange for me doing the setup and configuration myself.
- exceptionalUnder-the-radar coefficientIt offers a fundamentally different, model-agnostic architecture while the market is dominated by vertically integrated solutions.
- exceptionalCategory fit anomalyIt decouples the IDE client from the LLM backend, contrasting with every ranked provider's vertically integrated service.
- exceptionalLock-in costThe platform is designed to let users swap backend language models, minimizing dependency on any single AI provider.
- strongImpact densityThe core software is free and open-source, allowing users to connect to local models for zero marginal cost per completion.
- strongFounder attention proximityAs a small, recent open-source project, its founders and core developers are directly accessible in public community channels and issue trackers.
- weakEffort transferIt requires users to configure and manage their own connections to LLMs, unlike the integrated, pre-configured commercial alternatives.
